Job Description

Job Purpose:

Meets customer demands by designing, implementing, and maintaining voice over broadband networks.

Duties:

  • Completes telecommunications projects by establishing project objectives, milestones, and standards for builds, upgrades, and expansions; identifying short-term and long-range voice/data communications issues; collecting, evaluating, and communicating relevant information; identifying and evaluating options; choosing a course of action; reviewing open issues and action items; training and guiding technicians; expediting delivery of equipment and materials.

  • Plans networks by monitoring growing communications requirements; developing design requirements; researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying telecommunications network engineering techniques, equipment, wiring, and criteria; adapting and modifying telecommunications network engineering approaches and options; developing and evaluating new telecommunications network engineering architectures and approaches; establishing network protocols, and transmission and protection standards; tracking and understanding emerging telecommunications network concepts, practices, equipment, regulations, and standards; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Plans installations by developing blueprints, drawings, and schematics; preparing installation requirements; selecting telecommunications network equipment; identifying and evaluating contractors and vendors; evaluating bids; preparing budgets; preparing equipment and work orders; ordering equipment and materials.

  • Completes installations by supervising contractors; inspecting sites; configuring, testing, validating, and approving systems, services, and equipment; resolving technical issues; guiding technicians to test, accept, and turn-up equipment installed by vendors and contractors; identifying and resolving integration/interface issues; programming software changes.

  • Maintains and upgrades service by implementing and monitoring network management tools; creating schedules for testing and maintenance; performing remote access administration and connectivity; leading troubleshooting efforts; provides second-level support; writing networking environment policies and procedures; enforcing compliance to standards; training operators; preparing disaster recovery plans; evaluating new software and hardware; implementing upgrades; updating maps.

  • Maintains engineering database by entering and monitoring data.

  • Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
