Photo of 600kW Diesel Generator

The CO's 600kW diesel generator that powers the batteries when the electricity from Georgia Power fails; It monitors all three phases, and will cut on at any hiccup. Its fuel tank is a good distance away, so it can be fueled while running. Ayan George stands to its right.

Note the blue filters on the left (behind the generator, from my perspective), and the grey fan screens on the right. Air from the outside is blown in when the generator is running. We noticed some feathers stuck to the screen on the right side, where air exits. Mr. Cook explained that several pigeons are left bald (at least) when the generator cuts on.

This generator, also, is tested every two weeks.

Any time they're performing major maintenance, they bring in another generator on a truck, just in case something should happen. I can understand from my minimal experience with high-availability systems that the last thing you want is a power failure while you're doing maintenance.
