Here, we're entering The Vault, where all of the media -- copper and fiber -- come from the outside world into the CO. It's a long, wide concrete-walled passage with a steel frame down the center, upon which sits the various trunks.

When we first enterred The Vault, most of the trunks are relatively small, likes those shown in grey here. But as you near the back end (next picture), the smaller trunks are spliced into enormous black trunks.
